Henry Cook
About 1727 Henry Cook builds his house in the northwestern parts of then Waterbury. Henry is the first known English inhabitant of Northbury as the area would be called. We now know the location of his home on Smith Road today as it still stands in its original location.
1813
Birth of “Seth Thomas Clock Company”

Seth Thomas began making clocks in 1813 when the area was still known as Plymouth Hollow. Decades later, the business was officially incorporated as The Seth Thomas Clock Company. In 1813 Seth purchases the Heman Clark Clock factory on South Main St. this original Mill was located on the site of the last Seth Thomas factory.

The Cotton Mill
In 1834 Seth Builds a Cotton Mill later expanded to become the movement Shop.

Seth Thomas Dies
The founder of Seth Thomas Clock company Dies and his sons take over the company.

After the death of Seth Sr. residents of the area refer to Plymouth Hollow as Thomaston or Thomas’ Town

Thomaston Becomes a Town
Plymouth Hollow, once a village in the town of Plymouth, officially becomes incorporated as its own town in 1875. The town was named Thomaston after the dedicated clock maker Seth Thomas.

1884

Thomaston Opera House and Town Hall, Firehouse is completed
Built on the old Northbury burial grounds. The founders of Northbury were laid to rest here. Most of the graves and remains of those buried here were moved to Hillside or other cemeteries. Thomaston Opera House was designed by Waterbury based architect Robert Hill.

Talley industries closes the Seth Thomas Plant in Thomaston.
